    Today's Topic: The Hustle

Well Happppy Friday!  Yes, the weekend is finally here! I hope you got something fun planned for the next few days or maybe you have nothing planned which sounds like a pretty fantastic weekend to me.  Yesterday I was talking to this girl who was curious about how I got into radio and moved up so quickly in this industry.  She's young too and wants to move up from where she's at.

It's funny how many people want to get to the top but sometimes don't want to work their way up there.  I told her that's the only way!  Success is only achieved if you hustle!  I didn't just wake up one morning and walk into KIIS-FM and say, "hey can I be hired as a Full-time On air DJ?"  I worked my booty off 4 years prior to that and I still don't think that was a long time.  Some people work many more years than that to get to the top of whatever career they choose.  Look at doctors and lawyers... they're in school for like 100 years.

I guess in short what I'm trying to say is...you gotta hustle.  Go above and beyond.  When I was an intern we were only required to work at the station for 15 hours a week... I worked 55! When I made my demo tapes I was at the station till 4am.  I've worked through the night, holiday's... crap I've even worked straight through New Years Eve.  How poooopy is that shift?  Don't just do what's required of you... anyone can do that.  Always go above and beyond and trust me it will be noticed.  And the most important part of the hustle is that you have to believe in yourself.  Believe that you are good enough to handle being at the top... if you don't then what makes you think someone else will?

    Xoxo,
